Neutral model analysis of patterns of marine benthic species diversity

چکیده
Caswell (1976) proposed a neutral model which calculates a theoretical diversity for a sample of a given number of individuals and species assuming no biological interactions between species. Disagreement with the neutral model predictions have been suggested as a method of detecting disturbance or stress. To test these theoretical considerations, 98 samples of marine benthic organisms were subjected to neutral model analysis. Deviation from the predicted diversity was generally found to be negative less diverse than expected. Where disturbance was known to have occurred, spatial or temporal variations in the degree of dev~ation were in accordance with a hypothesis of diversity based on a combination of the Intermediate Disturbance Hypothesis (Connell 1978) and the General Hypothesis of Diversity (Huston 1979). Artificially created log-normal patterns of species abundance distribution gave a diversity greater than that predicted by the neutral model. But in no cases where the diversity of actual samples exceeded the neutral model prediction were the species abundance distributions log-normal.

Distribution, Diversity and Abundance of Benthic Foraminifera of the Northwstern Persian Gulf
During ROPME Winter Cruise 2006, twenty six surface sediment samples taken from the Northwestern part of the Persian Gulf at depths of 13-77m were analyzed for their foraminifera content. A total of 93 species of benthic foraminifera were found in the study area. The foraminifera assemblages were dominated by Ammonia beccarii, Spiroloculina excavata, S. depressa, Quinqueloculina dimidiata,...
متن کاملThe Effect of Environmental Parameters (Depth and Sediment) on the Benthic Molluscs Density and Diversity in the the crater of Nayband Bay
In order to investigate the sedimentary texture, diversity and density of benthic molluscs, 55 stations at 9 transect were collected in the Nayband Bay.Samples were taken with a Van Veen grab (0.022 m2) in 3 replications in each site.Using a Particle Size Analyzer instrument revealed that the sediment texture was dominated by sand with 7 sub distinct sub sediment. Semelidae,Veneridae and Tellin...
متن کاملBenthic invertebrate community in Khur-e-Mussa creeks in northwest of Persian Gulf and the application of the AMBI (AZTI\'s Marine Biotic Index)
Benthic invertebrates are a well-established target in environmental quality status evaluations. The AMBI (AZTI's Marine Biotic Index) was developed to determine the impacts and the quality status of soft-bottom marine benthic communities. The aim of this study was investigating multivariate pattern of benthic invertebrate community and application of AMBI (AZTI's Marine Biotic Index) for...

متن کاملDiversity and spatial distribution patterns of the benthic macrofauna communities in the southeast of the Caspian Sea (Golestan Province– Iran) in relation to environmental conditions
Biodiversity and structure of the benthic macrofauna communities were studied in the southeast the Caspian Sea (Golestan Province – Iran) during one year from October 2014 to September 2015. Seasonal samplings were done at 6 stations in 3 transects. Depth, temperature, salinity, pH, E.C., total organic matter and grain size were measured. More than 4,037 individuals belonging to five orders, Po...
